National Operations Manager

The Opportunity

The National Intermodal business has a footprint covering locations from Cairns to Perth. Through our intermodal rail operations, we transport millions of tonnes of containerised freight across the nation each and every day of the year.

Reporting to the General Manager, this is a newly created position to be part of the National Intermodal Lead Team, and will manage the interface between our state-based operations and the Executive level GM. There are five senior direct reports across the NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and WA operations.

Key accountabilities:

  • Provide leadership, direction and support for delivery of the strategic plan.

  • Engage and influence state based Intermodal teams to drive efficiency and operational outcomes at both a tactical and strategic level.

  • Enhance, and support the management of key customer relationships, supporting and contributing to new business and growth opportunities.

  • Drive a focus on operational excellence at all sites including train running, terminal productivity and efficiencies, and labour optimisation.

  • Play a key safety leadership role, promoting positive behaviour and safety engagement across all sites.

  • Driving continual change to improve business performance for key operational metrics that impact EBITDA, customer volumes and freight availability.

About you

  • Demonstrated track record of senior leadership; engaging large workforces within operational and safety critical environments.

  • Commercially astute with sound financial acumen, and the ability to manage key customer relationships and exceed expectations.

  • Capable to drive a business forward with strategic vision, and a focus on operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.

  • Influential at all organisational levels, whilst able to coach and mentor within your team.
