The Opportunity

We are looking for a dynamic Operations Manager, based in Adelaide that has overall accountability for the effective, efficient and timely delivery of our customers’ freight. Leading a team of Locomotive Drivers and train operational staff, the Operations Manager Linehual is tasked with ensuring a focus on safe work practices at all times and delivering performance to plan through best practice operational resource, infrastructure and assets utilization in a manner that delivers a superior service at the lowest unit cost across Adelaide and Northern Territory. In order to deliver logistical solutions that meet a wide range of stakeholder needs, the role will extend to the resolution of conflicting priorities and management of account related issues and customer relationships.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Championing safety, customer, teamwork and performance.
  • Effectively managing the selection and development of all terminal personnel in a style which ensures that the operational team is a dynamic, cohesive and productive workforce with a strong focus on continuous improvement and the achievement of operational and business performance targets.
  • Managing and resolving HR and IR issues, and maintaining a strong, direct and open relationship with all terminal and train personnel driving improved levels of accountability, clarity of purpose and overall performance.
  • Manage the development and ongoing maintenance of operational budgets, ensuring accurate monitoring and reporting of variations in expenditure or revenue and the achievement of EBITDA and EBIT expectations.
  • Supporting sales and customer service to build strategic customer relationships and partnerships, and actively develop growth markets through business development activities focusing on both organic and new market growth.

A core focus of the role will be on driving continuous improvement activities related to safety performance, slot utilization, freight availability, customer service and workforce culture. 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Strong leadership and management skills with a proven track record in fostering positive, collaborative, customer centric and performance oriented workplace cultures.
  • Accustomed to working in dynamic and industrial environments, you will have the energy, agility and capability to achieve outcomes and deliver large scale, lasting and complex organisational change.
  • You will model leadership and personal accountability to your teams and demonstrate commercial awareness and responsiveness to customer requirements.  
  • Financial management skills with strong commercial acumen.
  • A working knowledge of the relevant industrial laws, including the WHS legislation and regulations, as well as demonstrated conflict management, negotiation and problem solving skills.
  • Strong planning, coordination and project management skills and experience and
  • Sound understanding of Safety Management Systems and application within organisations.
