Procurement Lead (Fuel)

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Strategic Procurement Manager, the Procurement Lead sits within the Strategic Procurement Team and is responsible for the procurement of direct and indirect spend for our critical Fuel category. Fuel is Pacific National’s largest expense, averaging at $1 million per day.

The Procurement Lead is required to provide commercial, contractual and procurement services for the fuel supply (diesel, lubricants and fuel-cards) and from time to time as required support other procurement and business improvement activities. The Procurement Lead is also responsible for the day to day management of fuel through streamlined fuel ordering, receipting, delivery and payment processes and value added reporting and consulting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountability for the fuel procurement and management function whilst ensuring no interruption to rail operations due to fuel issues.
  • Ensuring all fuel administration practices are conducted on a timely basis so as to comply with the PN financial recording and contracts management  requirements are met.
  • Effective vendor management and actively working with key suppliers (Viva and Caltex) to foster a productive and value adding working relationship.
  • Developing and recommending a national sourcing strategy and supply chain management
  • Identifying business improvement opportunities from a fuel procurement and management perspective and working with internal stakeholders to pursue opportunities both revenue generation and cost reduction.
  • Where required, designing and executing procurement processes, drafting contractual, commercial, scopes of works and procurement documents in conjunction with PN Legal and internal stakeholders.
  • Be an effective people manager to the Fuel Administrators.

About You

To be successful for this role, you will have the following experience and capabilities:

  • Strong procurement technical skills at management level
  • Ideally be experienced in commodities procurement/ come from a commodities industry background, or transport/ logistics industry background
  • Highly developed account management/ relationship management skills
  • Be a highly commercially minded person
  • The ability to design procurement pathways to deliver value for money outcomes in a timely, risk adjusted and pragmatic manner.
  • Superior communications skills when liaising with external and internal stakeholders
  • Experience using RMS and Maximo systems is a plus, however not essential
