The Opportunity

The Engineering Team is responsible for managing the whole of life performance of the Rollingstock for the various operating divisions within Pacific National, as well as providing support to the maintenance functions and the Project Teams involved in new business and procurement

Reporting to the Fleet Service Engineer, the Rollingstock Engineer will provide professional engineering support to Pacific National for Rollingstock maintenance, enhancement, procurement and modification programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical analysis and solutions such that the wagons meet operational requirements for safety, performance, reliability, and life. The role shall ensure that all facets of standards and procedures, , design, condition monitoring, programming, quality control, maintenance support, divisional networking, etc. are provided through an integrated approach.
  • Applying a high level of technical aptitude together with engineering skills to determine Engineering strategies and review of design solutions provided by consultants and suppliers.
  • Develop and recommend a body of knowledge for inputs into rollingstock designs.
  • Prepare high level design schemes for concept direction or evaluation.
  • Co-ordinating activities with other personnel such that information gathered  is fed back to other personnel such as the Maintenance team and the Standards group.
  • Technical skills that must be applied in this role include a detailed knowledge of structures, fatigue, failure analysis, welding and other fabrication techniques, vehicle dynamics, design, Rollingstock standards, and mechanics.

  • Ability to apply attention to detail in a consistent, precise manner and determine and resolve causes of unreliability
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct resources in a dynamically changing environment, whilst communicating with multiple stakeholders.
