Senior Market Intelligence Analyst

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Market Intelligence Lead, the Senior Analyst will be responsible for playing a leading role in the delivery of proprietary market intelligence as an input to significant commercial and strategic decisions of the business.

The Senior Analyst will have significant autonomy in shaping the analysis framework and will have broad exposure to commercial matters and transactions including M&A, high value customer transactions and supply chain improvement opportunities being modelled and/or assessed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Act as internal subject-matter expert on a specific PN-customer market (either coal, agricultural commodities, or intermodal / general freight); 
  • Undertake in-depth and targeted industry, market, customer and competitor analysis. This includes interrogation of both primary and secondary data sources; estimating customer operating and freight economics; tracking industry developments; and providing evidence-based forecasts.
  • Market sizing of the Australian rail freight market for chosen PN-Customer market (either coal, agricultural commodities, or intermodal / general freight): Assessment of current and future rail freight volumes by key corridor to identify potential new markets and customers.
  • Support corporate development transactions and projects by playing a leading role in due diligence activities.
  • Verbal and written presentations to Executive and Commercial Teams in support of ongoing commercial projects.
  • Attendance at conference and corporate earnings calls; utilizing industry specific data in support of company and industry coverage; reviewing business and trade publications, annual reports and financial filings.

About You

In addition to a relevant tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience in a similar role, you will also possess:

 

  • Extensive data analysis skills with the ability to extract, interpret and articulate information according to the target audience
  • Sound experience in either coal, agricultural commodities, or intermodal / general freight market analysis
  • Extensive experience building strong business relationships
  • An analytical and inquisitive mind coupled with healthy scepticism to form views beyond the presented data
  • Experience in dealing with financial statements
  • Collaborative team player - is happy sharing views and ideas and enjoys challenging and being challenged by teammates.
