About the opportunity

As a Terminal Operator at the Melbourne Freight Terminal, you will play a key role in ensuring the on time movement of trains and efficient turn around times of trucks through the terminal.   You will be multi-skilled and assist in various aspects of the operation.  Initially you will be trained in safety critical aspects of your role and over time, progress to learn different competencies which could include, shunting, examining wagons, load shifting. Ultimately you will be a team player who thinks ahead, enjoys a challenge and wants to build a career with us.

You will learn the operation, the tools and processes required in this dynamic, safety and customer focused site with Pacific National and build your career with us.  You will be required to work shift work covering 24 hrs x 7 days, and adhere to all safe work instructions and standard operating procedures to ensure we achieve ‘home safe, every day’.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Terminal Operational skills applied to deliver on time train movements and efficient truck turn around – which could include activities such as load shifting, shunting and train examination
  • Ensuring Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) standards and requirements are satisfied and continuously improved
  • Use of computer systems, completion of operational paperwork and safety documentation
  • Ensure security and general housekeeping is maintained throughout your area of responsibility

About your experience

This is a role that requires a responsible and accountable individual who will efficiently and safely undertake their duties in this safety critical environment. Our ideal candidate will ideally will have an understanding of transport and logistics operational environments. You will be required to have a current Australian Drivers Licence, and further High Risk Licences (Forklift, Reachstacker, Gantry Crane). Terminal Operator skills sets (e.g. shunting/examining) will be highly regarded. Experience working shift work will also be highly regarded; as well as general computer proficiency.
