*Disclaimer: This Carbon Emissions Calculator (the 'Calculator') is a free tool designed by Pacific National to help users estimate the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions of freight by Pacific National rail transportation and the potential GHG emissions reductions and savings users may potentially achieve by switching from long-haul trucking to Pacific National rail transportation.
The Calculator and the resulting estimates are a high-level comparison of the potential Scope 1 GHG Emissions (metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions) based on distance and metric tonnes of freight to be hauled and should not be relied upon for reporting purposes.
The Calculator methodology incorporates emissions factors for diesel combustion in rail and road operations which have been obtained from the Australian Government and industry sources. The industry sources include Climate Active, National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007, National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (Safeguard Mechanism) Rule 2015, Measurement Determination (cleanenergyregulator.gov.au), 2021-22 published data highlights (cleanenergyregulator.gov.au) and GHG Protocol.
