With four children of her own, Mary knows the importance of balancing work with a home life and credits disciplined routines in helping her manage her own: exercise, relaxation, household tasks and trying to get plenty of sleep. She’s a strong advocate for work-life balance, which helps ensure our Pacific National team have a rewarding, enriched experience in the workplace alongside a happy and healthy family life.
Recently, Mary was among a group of around thirty women who were selected to take part in Pacific National’s Women’s Series. Driven by our Inclusion and Diversity team, the program is designed to build connection, community, and foster sharing more among employees no matter where you are based. “I was so thrilled to participate in the Women’s Series this year. Through sharing my experiences and hearing those of other women in our business, we are building a more supportive and inclusive workplace, which is important for everyone’s physical and emotional wellbeing.”
It is the mateship with my fellow drivers; it’s through helping each other out, and listening to one another, that we learn from one another and help deliver what matters and ultimately contribute to each of us going home safely every day.
In her time with Pacific National, Mary has gained a great reputation for always being ready to listen and help her workmates – no matter the task. “Apart from the obvious driving trains. It is the mateship with my fellow drivers; it’s through helping each other out, and listening to one another, that we learn from one another and help deliver what matters and ultimately contribute to each of us going home safely every day.”
Mary has found that work lights her up, and she thrives off sharing her knowledge of the industry and equally learning from her workmates. “I believe new opportunities and conversations can arise just from that small gesture, offering more opportunities for personal and professional growth. Our team work together with a common purpose in an atmosphere of trust and are genuinely interested in working together to get the job done safely and contribute towards our success.”
Her advice to anyone considering joining the industry?
“There are so many opportunities and a variety of career paths available – while there may be some sacrifice – if something comes your way give it a go and don’t fear failure.”
