What are the key responsibilities of a Trainee Driver?

The primary objective of a Trainee Driver is to become competent in safely preparing, managing, and operating locomotives.

A Trainee will learn all aspects of this through completing their TLI42622 Certificate IV in Train Driving.

Reporting to the local Operations Supervisor, Trainees will be required to prepare, manage, operate locomotives and trains safely in accordance with their level of competency.

Safe working qualifications and established operational procedures will be learned and embedded to ensure we meet all customer and operational requirements.

Upon becoming a qualified Locomotive Driver with Pacific National, your key responsibilities will include:

Safe and efficient operation of locomotives
Performing and maintaining train operations in a safe manner including in accordance with company policies, procedures, and network rules.
Provisioning and preparing locomotives for train operations including checking and testing control systems as well as preparing relevant compliance documentation.

What does the training journey look like?

To become a qualified locomotive driver, you will undertake a 12-month accelerated traineeship program where you will receive a TLI42622 Certificate IV in Train Driving issued by the Pacific National Registered Training Organisation (RTO 91717).
